It’s 2019 but I still send snail mails
Hoping my letters will get officials on the plane
What I see are lifeless bodies, females and males
Not in coffins but scattered on the open plain
Oldies and youngsters, even teens
Mothers and fathers and children, oh dear!
Why so much violence? Surely it’s not in peoples’ genes
When did human lives cheapen like a common deer?
Jaws dropping, people loiter on the grass
Some call it Afrophobia or even Xenophobia
Sympathisers hum like a dirge bass
The feeling is eerie; it gives me phobia
So I pick my pen to write
Value humanity – that’s all I want to share
