To my cigarettes:

Youโ€™ve been there when times got so tough I could hardly breathe.
You are there when Iโ€™m alone, in awkward spaces you become my companion.
You allow me to mingle, to bond over the desire for you,
To laugh about the many ways you burn fingers and lips.
You soothe the rough edges that life sharpens.
You bring pain to my chest, but I donโ€™t mind because it numbs the pain of life.

I struggle to let you go,
What will fill my hurt now?
Who will accompany me?
You never make me feel lonely
But you are killing me, slowly.
