South Africa was a nation of despotism
A home of favouritism
A family friend of nepotism
Opened doors for racism
Closed doors for egalitarianism

That was before peace

Somewhere referred to as unwanted seeds
And the winds of tyranny blowing our nation like mere reeds
There was no peace even through deeds
As the black minds failed to renounce,
Before the whites could denounce

That was before peace

That was before the rise of freedom
That was before the fall of apartheid
That was before the maturity of democracy
That was before the ending of autocracy

That was before peace

Black voices were big friends of deaf ears
As they were referred to as meddlers
Black people were referred to as law-breakers
As they were freedom fighters

That was before peace
