We hear about African ancestors that were slaves;
chained, whipped, kept in captivity.
We also hear of ancestors that fought in bravery,
Against apartheid, colonisation and negativity.
But the latter end up classified as criminal
Just because they were critical.

We say we are now free but we fail to see the chains that still bind us;
A representation of us that is not of us,
Belief systems that are not of us,
Societies that were created to limit us,
Education systems that aim to keep us subordinate.
In a land full of riches we remain poor and in chains.
An Africa in captivity we remain.
