Life is a circle of happiness, sadness, hard times and good times. But Saturdays in Kraaifontein are the worst.

Waking up to the awful smell of a ruptured drain is better than waking up to the news that your sister was raped and stabbed to death the previous night by some men in the community, and that there is nothing you can do about it. Fathers, brothers, and uncles have turned into vampires thirsty for the blood of women and children, and our hearts are always troubled with whose funeral we will be attending next.

Sundays are supposed to be days we praise the lord and connect, but we are always stuck indoors because we are scared. Daily shootings have become a trend, and babies are found in drains daily. My heart aches when I think about a 4-year-old that was raped by his father. Where is this world going? The Coronavirus made things worse because some victims had peace of mind when they were in school, but now they have to spend hours with perpetrators who turn them into objects. But we will fight with everything we have because we are heroines at the end of the day.
