Sometimes when we speak, we don’t think about what we say. We either complain like it’s the end of the world, or we don’t give enough credit to those that genuinely love and care about us. Most of the time it’s better if we stay quiet and keep our thoughts to ourselves. Yes, we don’t always know how the things we say can affect other people.

Words can have immense power over our lives, they can make us or break us. Either way, we must think before we speak, think about what we say to our kids and parents or to our best friends and lovers. We are not always aware of how the things we say, can reveal certain things about us. We should be cautious about the words we use every day.

Words once spoken can influence those around us and the rest of those people’s lives, especially those closest to us. Our words can change others’ perceptions about us almost instantly, whether we may know it or not. Our words should be used sparingly, to motivate and uplift those we communicate with every day, especially the youth.

I don’t need to tell anyone that children listen to how adults speak, and then they follow their example. So, starting today, make a choice to choose your words wisely. Let what you say become a light in someone else’s life. If not for yourself, then at least do it for the children, our future leaders.
