Life is not always smooth. I met a girl and immediately fell for her in my first year. But the only problem I seemed to encounter was her brother who stood in my way and he was gang member.

It was not easy for me when it came to girls as I was the kind of guy that girls wanted to be ‘friends’ with. You would assume that I had spent my primary and high school days behind the closet. I had given up on love but I changed my mind when I saw her. She was the prettiest girl in our class; God took His time creating her.

“When will you tell Amanda how you feel about her?” Mchoseleli, who was on top of the game, brought the subject up. He continued teasing me and said, “You’re a chicken… you won’t tell her. I know your game, you’ll crush on her until the following year.”

The following day Akhanya came doing the ‘Skhothane’ dance moves to me. ”

“Give up! Amanda has a boyfriend!” he said.
I was left overthinking what had just happened and how did he know what I was going to do that day.

After I arrived home, I went straight to my room and threw my bag away. I went to my bed and put the pillow above my head trying to fall asleep but I couldn’t. That was when I thought, did she say so herself? Other thoughts were that her brother was a gangster! If I were smarter I’d leave her alone, I thought to myself.

You couldn’t even get close to her because of how scary the brother was; he was always with her. It was if they didn’t get to spend sibling time at home. He looked like someone that would stab you multiple times.

While I was standing alone waiting for her, anxiety got better of me. I was nervous hoping she would come alone, she came running to where I was after some time. She did not notice me as she was busy looking around, as if looking for the person she was supposed to meet. She then looked at her phone, and I wanted to speak but my lips only opened slightly and the voice couldn’t come out. I closed my mouth.

Amanda continued browsing all over with her eyes and then asked me, “Did you find someone waiting here? I was meant to meet him here.” My inner voice said probably she was disappointed to see me there and not the ‘Prince Charming’ she had expected to see.
“I guess he didn’t showed up,” she said before I could respond. I kept fighting mixed thoughts in my mind with one saying it was now or never.

“Something is wrong with my eyes,” I said.

“Are you trying to be romantic or something?” she responded but wasn’t paying attention to what I was saying.

She was too busy searching for the ‘guy’ he supposed to meet. She frowned and looked at me and lashed, “What’s wrong with you?” I cleared my throat so that I could speak clearly. I responded, “Something is wrong with my eyes, I can’t seem to take them off you.” OMG tell me you didn’t say that! You’re the man! The words are out, I thought to myself.

“Would you like to go out with me?” I asked.
She just stared at me like she was seeing a ghost. She froze for a while and looking at me she replied, “Sorry I have a boyfriend and please tell that someone I was waiting for I did come so it is his loss.” She left.

Love is the most powerful emotion and that makes it the most dangerous one too. Sometimes, do the right thing and if it doesn’t work out it doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it. Not everything works out the way you want it.
