Dear Mr President

Salutation to you honorable leader. I will take my AK47 and shoot straight to the point.

Every morning when I wake up, I wake up with a smile that shouts Proudly South African. If the colour of my skin was divided into all the colours of our national flag,I would wear it with pride and without doubt.

My name is Mary-Anne Sithole I am a 25 years old woman living in a undeveloped community called Winterveldt. I believe cleanliness goes hand in hand with Godliness. How does one maintain this characteristic where water shedding has become a part of our daily lives forcefully?

When us the youth of Winterveldt are away in search of greener pastures due to the high unemployment rate in our community, our mothers and grandparents break their backs and limbs burdened by buckets filled with borehole water from a house located 1 km away.

“Break their limbs in what way?”,you may ask. The route they use to get to the source of water is damaged. It is filled with potholes which have been damaged further to the extent of being comparable to fish ponds.

“Why not change routes?”you may ask again, unfortunately it is the only safe route to the borehole. By the time I come back from job seeking it is late for me to go for I will fall victim to rapists.

As South Africans our daily needs are lessened through social grants that hold many households in its palm. Half a loaf is better than nothing. Our gratitude exceeds the highest mountain Mount Kilimanjaro.

I am burdened with heartbreak when I look at my people, yes my people! because we have merged bonds and are now part of each other’s lives, regardless of nationality or ethnic. The people that form part of the community of Winterveldt Marivati are vibrant, some dramatic. If our lives were a movie we would take the Oscar. If some of the people would leave, they would leave unfilled voids in our hearts.

I learned in Geography that when the ozone layer is affected by CFCs, a hole is dug through it and when that occurs harsh weather conditions take place. This is happening currently that is why our roads are damaged. Cheap materials are also used in the construction of roads. I am also aware that dams are running dry too.

If our government digs boreholes in our yards or nearer,(for our yards may all not accommodate boreholes) our hearts and minds would be at ease. When construction is underway, employing people of our community especially men would result in decrease of unemployed people, for charity begins at home.

We understand that boreholes cannot be dug overnight, for there are procedures taken for the success of the project. Water can be delivered to us through means of water trucks on a daily basis. For the water trucks to travel efficiently and smoothly, our roads need to be fixed, resulting yet again in employment of another group of people from the community.

The project will accommodate everyone in our community. This can be a win-win situation. The happier the people, the more votes the party will have. People’s faith and hopes have been shattered into many unrepairable pieces. It is only you Mr President who can restore the shattered hopes and dreams of the people, our people…,your people.

Thank you for awarding me the opportunity to express my views and concerns, thank you for granting me audience. God bless South Africa.
