Since I was born I spoke English and Makhuwa. I speak a little bit of isiZulu. In school I speak less isiZulu and more English.  When I am angry I speak isiZulu but if you speak to me in isiZulu and expect me to reply to you it will take forever for me to reply.

When I sit next to isiZulu speakers I feel like joining them but I can’t really. Some of the isiZulu words are easy but other words make me feel like I’m lost in that language. So when I try to speak it I mix it with my mother tongue, Makhuwa. Then people say I’m showing off but I can’t help it because I love it when Makhuwa words roll off my tongue. It’s really nice when people speak in their mother tongue.
