Life is a roller coaster and full of trials and tribulations. Some prefer to say it has its own ups and downs. They say the early bird catches the fattest worm and good things come to those who wait. I say good things come to those who work hard but in reality life isn’t fair and isn’t for the faint-hearted.
The real and confusing question is: how unfair is life? Is life unfair when terrible things are happening to good people, when things are not going according to plan or simply when a pastor being robbed across the streets?
One morning Andzelo, a 26-year-old local from the dusty street of Soweto, was getting ready for work. Andzelo had been working very hard for the previous six years. He had been trying to find projects to help keep children off the streets and rehabilitate them, but things weren’t going well for him.
“Andzelo, have you found a sponsor for your project?” asked a very close friend of his, Jammy.
“No I haven’t, but I won’t give up. I am ready to change the world!”
“So what are you going to do?” asked Jammy.
“You know in life things don’t just come on a silver platter, you have to work hard. Like I said I am ready to change the world. Pastor T.D Jakes once said “Use your mentality to change the world”,” Andzelo replied.
Two days later Andzelo received a phone call from one of the biggest companies situated in Johannesburg saying that they would support him financially, and they even wanted him to be well-known for the great project he had. They also offered him an opportunity to work with the world-known organisation, The Gift of the Givers. He was nervous on the phone and shivered like a reed in the river the whole day after the call.
Andzelo was on his way to Hillbrow Street in Joburg to break the good news to the children that they would finally have a peaceful home. Homeless people that smoke nyaope constantly chased them around.
Andzelo was over the moon as he was driving towards the Hillbrow Street. A huge truck came out of nowhere and smashed his car and rammed into three other cars. The cars were mangled in the accident and unfortunately Andzelo didn’t make it to the homeless children. He died on the spot.
Indeed life isn’t fair sometimes, terrible things happen to good people. Andzelo was about to change more than 200 lives for the better and now these children’s lives will remain in constant danger. Andzelo’s story taught me that good things come to those who work hard, and you can be ready to change the world and lives but the world is not always ready for change.
