When we talk about time, most people think of the present moment. They do not think about the upcoming time, the future. They do not think about what they want to achieve in the near future. Many people waste time making decisions that they think will be beneficial for their future without realising that “time waits for no man.”

Time is the most special commodity ever created, and wasting it is so senseless. Because it leads to regret. You regret not doing the most important things, while you still had the chance. Speaking from experience, I once wasted time, without even realising it. After I matriculated, I thought I had it all figured out, because all I wanted at that moment was to get a job. I was only trying to console myself.

I matriculated with a bachelors pass, but instead of applying for tertiary education, I stayed at home for almost the whole year. The following year after that I realised that time was moving very fast. I then decided to go look for a job and to tell you the truth, it wasn’t easy at all. Fortunately, I found a job experiential training programme where I received a stipend every month, even though it was a contract, it kept me busy.

When the contract ended, a year later, I couldn’t believe it and I became very stressed not knowing what had hit me because I had no idea what I was going to do next. I had hoped and prayed that maybe the contract might be renewed but unfortunately, they did not renew it. That is when I decided that the following year I am surely going to further my studies. Then another problem came from not meeting the requirements of the career I wanted to pursue, because it required a higher APS score than I had.

I decided to upgrade my mathematics because it was the main subject required. Unfortunately, the results came back the same as the old ones I had on my matric certificate, so I applied for a different course. If only I had known earlier that it would be this difficult to stay at home not doing anything every single day I would have made different choices than the ones I had made.

This year I will be doing my first year at university. I will be turning 23. Just imagine being a first year student at the age of 23. I am not complaining but I guess what they say is true that, it is never too late to reach your ultimate goals.

I have learned that time is moving swiftly, so always do the right thing at the right time, even if you make mistakes, learn from them and move on with life. Even though I wasted a lot of time, what I regret the most is the opportunities I passed by. I am grateful that I still have time to correct all my mistakes. Time is indeed ticking, but it is never too late to bounce back. Lift your head up high; dust yourself off reach for your goals. Use your time wisely, while you still can. I know I sound judgemental but all I’m trying to make you understand is that time lost may be restored only if you are willing to go the extra mile.

Whatever you want to become tomorrow depends on the choices you make today. Time never stops so before making a decision think about it first and ask yourself this question: Am I doing the right thing? It will all depend on your answer if you really want to go ahead with your decision or not. Never take time for granted because everything has its consequences. Procrastinations are very tempting but do not allow it. Time is a free force, it can never be bought or saved therefore use it judiciously.
