I have been in this for as long as I can remember, my work never ends, every second I have to decide the fate of human life. I do not love my work, it brings sadness and pain to humans, the pain that destroys their hearts and forms hatred. I am the reason for oblivion. Humans hate me, they do not even think about me in their sleep, they wish I never existed.

I have been making hard decisions ever since I started my work, now I have to decide the fate of the young drug-dealer boy and the drug lord who are stuck in the decision-making pathway. Between the two I can only take one life and spare the other. Let me tell you more about the two.

The young boy, Lucky, lives with his mother and two siblings in a small village located in the outer west of Durban. His mother is a domestic worker, she makes sure that she provides for her children and they don’t lack anything. Lucky is the eldest son who joined a group of drug dealers and stopped attending college. This all started when I took their father, who was also a drug dealer. Lucky’s father joined a group of drug dealers so he could provide for his family. He thought it was the only way he could make money quickly.

He did not know what he was getting himself into. He was killed by another drug dealer. His son, Lucky, was enraged by his death in such a way that he decided to join the group of drug dealers to get closer to the one that killed his father and get revenge for his death. I brought pain to Lucky, I am responsible for the hatred he developed, he wanted to avenge his father because of me. It pains me that I have to bring this unbearable pain to humans but it is my work, I have to keep doing it no matter how painful it is.

Lucky made a promise to himself that he would avenge his father’s death and he would not rest until the people who took his father’s life were dead. He did not know that I was the one who took his father from them. He joined the drug dealers’ group and started to sell drugs to young children. He did not realise that he was destroying their lives and his. All he thought about was revenge, revenge, revenge. He did not realise how much pain he brought to his mother by following in his father’s footsteps and he did not realise how precious life is.

Life has a lot in store for him, he is still young and he has a chance to make the right decision before it is too late. He did not care about anything, he was eager for revenge. He kept ignoring the good of life and headed to the darker side of life, which is me. Sometimes I feel like humans want me and they are forcing me to do my work on them. It feels like they want me to bring this pain down on them. It feels like Lucky wants me to end his miserable life. I had no other options except for showing him who I am. He managed to get close to the drug dealer and I helped him. I took the drug dealer because it was time for him to go to the unknown afterlife world.

I had to teach Lucky an important lesson. I had to show him what would happen if he kept on not appreciating life. I put him in the decision-making pathway. In humans’ language, he got shot before he shot the dealer and went into a coma after they admitted him to hospital. I knew if I took that drug dealer, Lucky’s family would never live in peace because that drug dealer was the only family for his brother. I also put the drug lord in the decision-making pathway. In humans’ language, he got into a car accident and went into a coma too.

In the decision-making pathway, things become very difficult for me because I have to decide whether I give that person a second chance or not. I have to look back to their deeds and decide their fate. It is hard for me to decide the fate of the young boy who was driven by hatred into doing bad deeds, the hatred that was formed by the pain, the pain that was caused by me for this young boy and his family. I do not even know what to decide, the drug lord was driven by money into doing his bad deeds just like this young boy’s father, and as a result, many innocent lives were destroyed.

I was forced to take innocent lives because of them and their deeds. Lucky is young, I do not know why he did not see life the way he was supposed to see it, why he forced me into doing this.

Now you know how they ended up in the decision-making pathway and the time of the decision-making has come. It is hard, it is really hard for me, the sadness and pain that is written in this young boy’s mother, I cannot bear it. This drug lord is now lonely since I have taken his brother.

My final decision is that this young boy deserves a second chance. I hope he has learned his lesson about following the darker side of life. My work has been always hard for me, I do not understand why humans hate me so much. I know I have brought them pain instead of joy, I know I have brought them sadness instead of happiness, I know I am their worst nightmare. I can never change who I am, I have to keep doing my work no matter what, no matter how painful it is, I have to.

You want to know who I am? I am the darkness, I am the train to the unknown afterlife world, I am the biggest enemy of humans, I am the end of life, I am death!
