Academic ability is just one of the things that determine academic success. Most students get academically excluded from tertiary institutions not because they are academically incompetent, but because of certain factors that seriously hinders academic progress. For example the lack self-confidence, the ability to work in a team, money management, etc. Most learners from rural and/township schools matriculate and go to tertiary institutions without being aware of this reality; they end up experiencing the worst first year university experience.

Before Varsity talks about some if not most of these factors, highlighting their importance and suggesting some of the ways they can be improved, using real life experiences of those who are currently in university and those who have passed through the system. I wrote this book because I wanted my brother, who is currently in matric, to know certain things (about different aspects of life including education, life, money, entrepreneurship, soft skills, etc.) while he is still in high school. The content is therefore mere genuine brotherly advice. This means that you are allowed to take only what you think will work for you.

My dream is to see more platforms where experiences of those who have been through things are shared with those who are about to embark. This will allow us to progress as a society. My hypothesis is that if all matriculates who go to tertiary institutions read this book, the exclusion and dropout statistics will fall.
