“Is that a yes?”

“Yes, yes, Bongani!”

They hug and shed tears of joy. Zandile can’t take her eyes away from the sparkling rock of the ring as they embrace.

She has never been with a man as caring as Bongani. He is everything a woman could ever want: handsome, rich, caring and humble. A rare creature because he also does not have the wandering eye of most rich men.

For a long time Bongani and Zandile had not been lucky in love – until they found each other. Now they look tenderly into each other’s eyes as they separate from the embrace. Zandile’s hands are in Bongani’s.

“I want to make this process as speedy as possible. I have never felt this way about anyone else in my whole life. You and the kids are my family. I want to make you my wife. I love you, Zandile Cele,” says Bongani.

“I love you too, Bongani.”

“I want to take care of you, Zandile. Now that you have accepted my marriage proposal you’ll never have to work another day in your life. You won’t have to put your life in danger chasing after criminals.”

Zandile recoils out of Bongani’s hands. “But … I love my job, Bongani,” she says.

“But now you will live a better life. You can create your own job and create jobs for other people. You’ll have the opportunity to do whatever you want,” he says, and takes Zandile’s hands back into his. “I worry about you, Babe. Your line of work is dangerous.”

“But it is my life; I love my job,” she says determinedly.

“I’m not saying decide right here and now. But please promise to give it some thought,” says Bongani.

“I will.” Zandile looks into his eyes and then at the sparkling ring. “It’s all just too much to take in right now.”
