I said I am an African
And with my Afro I can
Prove to the world that a human
No matter a man or a woman
Can be their own superman

I come from the rolling hills of Africa
Where the sun sets
Our minds and channels our hearts
To always aim for better
And pay no attention to the weather
Because cold or warm I am an African

I am black by colour
But golden at heart
Because I come from a hut
Where we hurt no heart
Because we understand that
Africa is a heart

A heart that beats
Like a djembe drum in my head
A heart that only feels love
But usually never loved
A heart that cries a silent cry

We pride ourselves with our agriculture
And I fully agree, culture is our pulse
That keeps us moving and growing
Because forward is where we’re going
And we do not care about those who are groaning.

My Africa is a home of Ubuntu and not “ubhunthu”
We’re the giraffes
That are always walking tall
And hoping not to fall
Even though the fees must fall
We are slowly but surely
climbing the wall

Many Africans, African Americans
American Africans
But I’m surely African
And I’m glad that I can
Again and again say I am an African

I said I am an African
And with my Afro I can
Prove to the world that a human
No matter a man or a woman
Can be their own superman.
